PhD Phooey!

Often I get frustrated when folks don't realize not every military man or woman doesn't meet all the stereotypes.

There is an article that ran in this morning's Washington Post discussing General Petraeus, himself a holder of a PhD from Princeton, who has went out and found the smartest officers he can to help him in Iraq. This quote especially made my head spin:

They are smart colonels who have been noticed by Petraeus, and who make up one of the most selective clubs in the world: military officers with doctorates from top-flight universities and combat experience in Iraq.

Ok... this article was written by Tom Ricks, one of the more savvy journalists out there, and basically makes it sound like these guys are freaks. If anything, they are the ones who might just save this damn mess the neo-cons have dumped us in. They also represent the last great hope for the American experiment: smart people who want to serve their fellow man and their government.
